After a misunderstanding at Covent Garden, eminent linguist Professor Higgins and his friend Colonel Pickering make a wager with local flower girl Eliza Doolittle - if Higgins can teach Doolittle to speak in such a manner that she can pass herself off as a duchess. Moreover, Pickering wagers that if he can teach Doolittle within the span of a few weeks, he'll reimburse any expenses occurred as a result of her training. With Higgins determined to prove his skill to both his student and friend, and Doolittle herself, set on making a better life for herself through her new connections, the two begin the arduous task of refining her into a proper lady.
